BY: Kelly Moran Kelly Moran created a portrait as perfect as an artist would do, before that picture is displayed to the world. "An Insomniac's Dream" is a collection of poems and short stories. Her poems are crafted with the soul intention to inspire the reader, and her finishing touches in this picture are the intriguing short stories that make the reader crave for more. To complete her masterpiece, she adds many colors to bring her picture to life. Her poems speak on a personal level through experience in life, and dreams. Her poetic muse ranges from love to regret, and times of grief. The poems tug at the reader's heart as in "Candle Wishes." The reader can feel the pain, remorse and regret as we step into the author's shoes, while she looks back into haunting memories of the past. Suddenly, tears flow from the reader's eyes, imagining old ghosts who leave scars behind. One moment the reader is smiling and laughing, the next moment the reader is crying. "Every Pedal Falls" is thought-provoking, forcing the reader to turn the clock back, and compare their own life experience. "Dream Of Me" is loving, passionate, and sentimental. "To Better Days" inspire with words of encouragement. "Cries To Heaven" speaks of sadness and regret of events that make us sorry for diving back into a time of sunshine, until the unexpected hurricane arrived, changing our lives forever. In her sonnet "Reality's Pain" takes the reader on an emotional dark journey of what once was, and could have been. A risk taken in life by many of us in which we can relate to the same situation, forcing us to imagine where would we be without trial and error? Of course, all readers with open minds relate, and realize we are forced to learn from mistakes. But, we also become stronger. The short stories within the pages of "An Insomniac"s Dream" are chilling, filled with suspense, and remind you to turn on the lights, and always look behind you. "A Letter To Grandma" cries out loud the meaning of loss, and the suffering endured through a dreadful event we are all forced to face in this lifetime. "Thank You For Coming" leaves you on the edge of your seat, and it is as scary as some scenes are in "Cape Fear." Then the reader is taken through the doors of supernatural as in the movie "What Lies Beneath." If you were never superstitious before, you will be now! For the icing on the cake, the reader is left with similar afterthoughts as in the mind of Julia Roberts in "Sleeping with The Enemy." I would recommend this book as a good read for teens, and adults. I also highly recommend it to poetry lovers, and reader's who enjoy thrillers. Kelly Moran's poetry is as refreshing as that of "Emily Dickinson." Her short stories, combined with sonnets and breathtaking poetry are viewed in many different colors. The mood of each color is painted through her muse with skill and precision to take hold of the reader's attention, while you crave for more, leaving the reader in total satisfaction! BY: J. R. Gordon "Graves In The Wilderness" takes the reader on a historical adventure on horseback through the lives of Piper and Diego, two men who become brothers. Diego, nicknamed "NKawa" from his father, was a sole survivor after a brutal, merciless ambush of Comanche aggressors. The two brother's begin their journey through the trials and tribulations of the Civil War. They are forced to leave sorrows behind as they venture out to the early pioneer days of an underdeveloped Australia. In a mission to desperately begin a new life, leaving shattered memories behind, they are confronted with more tragedy and heartbreak. Their journey continues through bloodshed lands as a result of brutality, while a strong bond develops between them, sharing loyalty and compassion. The story is a touching tale of triumph, and loalty. Although the two men suffer from loss of family, and all possessions, they never react with bitterness and hatred. Instead, they help the less fortunate at all costs, even their own lives. J.R. Gordon depicts strength of the human spirit through the two brother's who fight for their highly valued morals. This novel is as action-packed as the movie "Speed " as the wild ride takes you through chilling, unexpected events. "Graves In The Wilderness" is rich in compassion, and as emotional as "The Patriot" with Mel Gibson. The author's knowledge of the historical events in the Civil War era, and the Indigenous culture was more than impressive. The reader experiences "A Pure Adrenaline Rush" each time the two brother's are forced to fight in unexpected horror to protect the rights of the innocent. There's never a dull moment in this novel, and the enthralling read is emotional, and values human spirit as highly as viewed in "The Next Karate kid." A highly recommended read for all those who enjoy a story based on history, combined with action, suspense, and compassion. "Graves In The Wilderness" is a superb combination of "Rich-Man, Poor-Man" and "Gone With The Wind." Gordon's expertise in describing the lives of two completely different men, adding drama to the Civil War era, results in a sentimental narrative that any historical reader would not want to miss! The anticipation of this special day for a teenager is as important to them as a wedding day is to a couple very much in love. Sweet sixteen to young ladies is also a time of peer pressure, mixed-emotions, and confusion as to who they are, and who they want to be. Most young ladies are thrilled this joyous occasion has finally arrived, but not for Skye Patterson, she perceives dread and humiliation. Unlike most teenagers, the most important thing in her mind is not boys, dating, and parties. Instead of building her social life, she's forced to grow up overnight, with a responsibility that most sixteen year olds would not be able to handle. It's hard enough on Skye to maintain good grades in school to plan for her dream of becoming a Veterinarian, but she's also forced with the burden of guiding and protecting Starr Alexandra. Starr is Skye's younger sister, born less than two years later. Although Starr is also a teenager, who may resemble Skye in appearance and is as loving as her family is, she lives in a different world. Starr is an autistic teenager, who lives in an isolated world, one in which only Starr can control as to who she opens the doors to. She survives the trials and tribulations that life throws at us by creating her own barrier for the good, and against cruelty. She thrives on joy and uses her barrier as a defense mechanism against ugly situations, usually caused from ignorant people who lack knowledge, understanding, and compassion. Starr used her barrier of defense at the local mall, while under the supervision of Skye, when they were both arrested under false pretenses for shoplifting. A day in Skye's life that became a crisis, which will forever leave an emotional scar, over a situation that was blown out of proportion. Skye accidentally lost her sister in the mall, while socializing with friends, with her mind focusing on a young man who she admired. Suddenly, her world was filled with fear, panic, and guilt. The trauma inflicted upon her, which occurred within thirty minutes, changed her life as quickly as a flashing traffic light. Skye was overwhelmed with joy to find Starr in a bookstore, laughing at a talking Elmo book, her new joyous possession. Before Skye could even take a deep breath of relief, handcuffs were forced upon her, and Starr. A moment that caused hysterics, embarrassment, and devastation that could have been prevented. Unlike the reaction of most sixteen year olds, Skye Patterson becomes a hero, defending and protecting Starr, regardless of her friends totally ignoring the incident. If I had the privilage and honor to nominate an Academy Award for Best performance in crafting the story of this novel with perfection, without a doubt, it would go to J.Hale Turner. In the same respect that Walt Disney used, the author painted her characters, then brought them to life. With thirty years experience in the medical field, specifically caring for autistic children and raising a child with disabilities, I can witness the expertise and knowledge that Ms. Turner carefully incorporated in her characters of "Orange Clouds Blue Sky." This story tugs at the heart, while making the reader laugh and cry at the same time, as one would do while viewing "Raymond" with Tom Cruise, and Dustin Hoffman. The sensitivity and emotional trauma that the Patterson family lives everyday could be felt through the reader as if watching "Radio" with Cuba Gooding Junior. This novel is a must read not just for teens, and adults, but also for the entire family. The portrayal of heroics penned by J.Hale Turner is superb in a magnificent performance of showing the readers that some of the world's greatest victories can happen in real life. Bernard is tormented with his dreams, fantasies, and nightmares. The reader is taken through the door of a magic carpet ride of adventure, but the ride doesn't end there. The ride continues from the magic carpet of fantasy, through the door of the haunted house of fear. Each reader will be taken through the same journey, but if they dare go a second round, they may experience a completely different feeling than the first ride. Vacation is a thought-provoking, surrealistic first time novel, created into a dark fiction masterpiece. This adventure story through the mind of Johnson is disturbing, provocative, and challenging. Shipp covers every segment of human emotion to perfection, leaving the curious reader in total darkness. Reading Vacation is like watching one of Alfred Hitchcock's finest brain-teasing movies, where the reader is left confused. This unpredicting story of one man's journey is a powerful, bizzare, roller coaster ride into the human psyche. Vacation demands the reader to begin this journey once again, and for each reader that takes a second ride, Shipp's mission is accomplished. His sole intention is to make sure the reader hasn't missed anything. The reader is left with questions, not answers, and is forced to solve this puzzle of mystery. Is Bernard Johnson battling with depression? Does depression take over? I recommend this novel to all readers who enjoy dark fiction, combined with challenge, and suspense. However, one must be as daring as Jodi Foster in "Silence Of The Lambs." Bear in mind that she was warned, "Don't let Hannibal get into your head!" May I remind you that he was a clever psychiatrist, and she was forced to take that daring risk. Shipp invites his readers to take that risk, while riding that roller coaster of madness through the psychological journey of Vacation, reminding readers that the greatest risk in life is not taking one. The Patton home consisted of one- hundred and eighty-eight acres of pure beauty, with blooming gardens, pools and ponds, and horses that Kendra and Aimee deeply admired. Childhood for the Patton girls was a family album of cherished, loving memories that shined through Alfaland from their parents and relatives, friends, and Amish neighbors. Their religion constituted high morals and values, respect, and love for others. Everyone in the town they lived in admired and respected the Patton family. The abundance of love that Kendra's parents, Byron and Leigh gave to their daughters could be felt through Kendra, Aimee, and Alfaland. George, who was the Patton's hired helper, was tending to the barn as he always did. Bryon and Leigh were shouting to the girls from their outdoor patio to hurry up, so they all could eat dinner, before it begins to rain. Kendra was inside the house, listening intently to Aimee Sue's secret. Aimee had just told Kendra that she was in love with someone. During this time, Aunt Jane called to warn them about a storm coming their way. Within a split-second, a raging tornado attacked Alfaland, changing the lives of the Patton family forever. In the first few chapters of Alfaland, the reader can sense love, happiness, and horror. In a clever way, the author describes beauty to its utmost level, and terror from mother nature in its devastating behavior. The strength of Kendra as described by Susie Honeycutt is a remarkable portrait of inspiration to all readers. The reader can detect love as described in the movie "Ghost." The reader can feel the happiness, and sadness as described in the movie "Love Story." As one reads through the lives of the Patton family, after the impact of the horrific affects of the tornado, pain and remorse can also be felt. I would recommend this novel to teens as well as adults. The story reveals a crucial fact of how our strength through an unexpected crisis in our lives can not only help us, but others as well. The author paints an incredible picture of determination through the lives of the Patton family, after they battle grief from death, and sadness from loss. A GREAT READ INDEED! The main character in this story is Janie Hannagan, an exceptional, intelligent, and gifted young lady. While riding on an Amtrak train with her mother that's going to Chicago at age eight, Janie discovers that she is different than most children, and realizes she can dream. Her childhood consisted of poverty, not knowing who her father was, and facing the realization that her mother was an alcoholic. She grew up in Fieldridge, Michigan. A town that was labeled as white trash by the rich, snooty girls at school, who tormented and mistreated Janie from elementary through high school. By the time Janie entered sixth grade, she faced many challenges, and became stronger to fight off the obstacles in her life that knocked her off her feet. During her desperation to survive these challenges, a girl her age by the name of Carrie moves in next door, and becomes Janie's best friend. Although Janie could fight her way through the numerous problems she was faced with, there was one problem she realized she'd have great difficulty dealing with. Her greatest fear was her seizure- like disorder, causing recurrent dreams and nightmares, leaving her numb, hopeless, and scared. The only person she trusted to share her dreams with was Cabel, a young man who witnessed her dreams with both of them in the dream, and in the nightmares. At age sixteen, Janie began working in a nursing home, because the welfare checks her mother received only paid for rent, and booze. It was at this age when Janie realized that her dreams and nightmares were not considered normal, and that she needed help to overcome this greatest fear that haunted her everyday. She was able to read the lives of others through her dreams, and visualize the same dreams other people had. Her toughest battle was to help others in nightmares, and remove herself from other dreams that she'd rather not be in. As she begins to write a journal about her dreams in a fight to overcome her fear, Cabel falls in love with her, and guides her every step of the way. Through this battle, Janie is faced with another problem, and her decision could affect her for the rest of her life. In order for Cabel to prove his love for her, she must struggle through another daring challenge. This compelling story holds the readers attention from page one to the end, with interest and curiosity as to how the story will end. The Talented author painted a splendid picture of her characters as Janie and Cabel came to life in the first few chapters. "Wake" is enriched with the fine qualities that's required for movie viewing. A story where the reader can feel the sadness, happiness, and the emotional trauma that Janie is forced to face. Reads Like A Great Movie Of All Time... Lazaro was a young boy, who lived in Cuba with his parents. His mother died, and his father lost his job. Lazaro's father raised Lazaro during a time when poverty reached its peak, forcing Lazaro and his father to move to Key West. Lazaro's father worked in Florida, where Lazaro became a mariner. While his father worked, Lazaro was fascinated with the ocean, learning about the mysteries of the sea and navigation. Dominic is a talented Chicago engineer whose work introduced him to Key West. Lazaro and Dominic met in Sloppy Joes, a bar where the two men bonded while playing a chess game for the first time, which connected them to a lifetime of friendship. Over the course of many years, the two men played one-thousand games, carved on the back of this beautiful, laminated board. First-time novelist, Andrew Jalbert, takes the reader on a historical journey through the lives of Lazaro and Dominic. History comes to life from the 1930s, as well as the characters in this heartfelt story. The bond between Lazaro and Dominic draws them close like brothers, while sharing their life history over each game played with a chessboard, until Lazaro is eighty-six years old. Dominic suffers a terminal disease to cancer, and their last game is shared days before Dominic dies. The story is not only amazing, but is touching to the soul. The author paints a beautiful, peaceful scenery when the friendship grows through years of events that take place in Key West. Lazaro learns that life is unpredictable, after facing the death of his father and a good friend to a raging hurricane. The storm changes his life, nearly destroying his friendship with Dominic, while Lazaro isolates himself for many years, blaming himself for his father's death. MY FEEDBACK On This Book I found "The Healer's Garden" to be a Great Read. Throughout this Novel-- the Reader can actually feel heartfelt emotions as the author walks you in one door and out another. The book is a combination of romance, drama, and suspense. There's never a dull moment from chapter one to the ending. The reader can feel the sadness, happiness, fear and glory combined. For the icying on the cake---the ending is Happy, and the reader is left with that famous question related to Craving. What happens next? Last but not least, there was a Good moral to the story, which adds another golden star to the clever thoughts of this author. It's not about gay or straight. It's about Happiness in our lives--filling that voided space in our hearts that makes us younger--regardless of race--color--creed--orientation. We all grow up in a society, searching for love, and giving love. When labels are attached to reasons for happiness--that's where the word happiness must be clearly defined, because mistakes through this journey could change our lives forever.

~~BOOK REVIEW~~ Jahara is a twenty-eight year old woman, who is a medical director of a hospital, and runs a healing facility. Merenith is a gifted animal trainer, and runs a vet clinic and farm. Although not legally binding, Jahara and Merenith pledged a commitment to each other, after rehearsing their sacred vows of love. Jahara's ring on her left hand reminded them everyday of their vows. They lived a quiet life together in the heat of the desert, riding their horses into the mountains, or hiding along cool forest trails was where they shared their private life. Merenith did everything in her power to win Jahara's happiness, but Jahara always felt something was missing, a small hole in her heart existed that she never spoke about. Merenith always knew that one day Jahara was going to be ordered through a governmental law, requiring Jahara to leave Merenith for two years. Jahara would have no control over the situation, and Merenith had completed her mission for this order years ago. Jahara's papers came in, with details about her mission to "The Garden Of Serenity." "The Garden" on the outside consisted of villages, appearing beautiful to the eye, like the "Garden Of Eden." Merenith did her time years ago, where she gave birth to two babies, a male and a female, but finds it too painful to talk about until now. Out of love, she desperately tries to convince Jahara that "The Garden" is not that bad, swallowing painful memories while calming Jahara, trying to enforce courage. Merenith was totally convinced that after Jahara fulfills her obligation to this order, they could bury the memories together, and move on with their lives. Merenith was unaware that their life together was about to shatter like broken glass, before Jahara's mission was completed. Jahara is riding a train with approximately one- hundred women, thinking quietly to herself about this place, not knowing if she will survive what she has dreaded for years. Her mission is to become a human incubator for nine months. She was required to give up her professional job at home, give birth to two offspring with the probability of never raising the infants, then return home to Merenith. "The Garden" was fifty-two miles long, consisting of several villages, and a hospital. Jahara was on that train with the new breeding group, ordered for their services for a minimun of two years, providing each woman prayed that their time would not be extended, if an infant didn't survive, or if the newborns were not female. Women at "The Garden" were superior, and men were used as slaves, and treated like animals. According to the governing laws, the soul purpose of men was for reproduction, and labor. Although "The Garden" was pretty on the outside, it was really the house of horror and torture. The soul purpose of "The Garden" was to create a superior female world, eventually eliminating any males from the population. Doctor Bresilee was in charge of "The Garden." She ran it like a militant, filled with hatred, despising all men. As a young woman, she was abused sexually, living with burned scars on her body, and in her mind. Her revenge to men turned into insanity to where she would do anything in her power to rid all males from the world, including murder. Behind closed doors of "The Garden" existed a haunted house of terror, torture, and death. While working as a healer in the clinic, Jahara learns that Doctor Bresilee performed experiments, ordered castration, and extinguished bodies in an incinerator. Jahara falls deeply in love with a male breeder named Brenimyn, and her past thoughts of men completely change, while her relationship with Merenith ends. Doctor Bresilee becomes informed through her spies that Jahara is aware of the brutality, and illegal punishments committed everyday at "The Garden." Brenimyn becomes the leader of many men, giving speeches, and protesting for equality. Doctor Bresilee orders her guests to beat and castrate Brenimyn, while planning to murder Jahara. In a desperate struggle to save their lives, Jahara and Brenimyn find themselves in a war, fighting for their rights and freedom of slavery for all the residents. Jahara fights back, saves Brenimyn's life, and completely changes "The garden" after the death of Doctor Bresilee. Merenith and Jahara contribute to changes in governing laws for the people, ensuring equality for all, and put brutality to an end. Jahara and Brenimyn get married, and live happy. Reading through this novel is like watching a classical movie that's packed with romance, suspense, and horror. It's the kind of novel the reader cannot finish tomorrow, after feeling every emotion the human body can endure by chapter three,when there are many more chapters to read. The author was clever to begin with love and peace, making the reader calm and content. Suddenly, a few chapters later, the reader is weeping at tragedy. Finally, just like in a horror film, the reader sits at the edge of his seat, gasping at the thought of Jahara and Brenimyn being murdered, which you don't find out until the last few pages. the romance is as good as it was on "The Titanic." After Courtney and Jay get married , her decision making changes, and so does her personality. Stars In Their Eyes is a comically dramatic story about the lives of people who had the same dream, which was to become a famous actor or actress. The reader is shown the highs and lows of success, and learns why so many famous movie stars that meet in Hollywood decide to chose another state to live in for their private lives. Stars In Their Eyes shows the many reasons why couples are pulled apart from their private lives, while living under the spotlights, destroying their personal lives. This novel is an excellent soap opera in itself, while describing the lives of Courtney and Leah, who are faced with many obstacles as they attempt to climb that ladder. The reader is left with an ending similar to "Gone With The Wind." Courtney will worry about it tomorrow, and tomorrow for her becomes a new year. The talented author takes us through this story as we witness a roller-coaster ride of emotions, while craving for the next episode.
